A Rehabilitation Centre is a place that helps people with physical, mental and emotional problems. It is also a place where many people find recovery from drug addiction and alcohol addiction. The rehabilitation treatment at these facilities can vary from person to person but generally speaking the rehab treatment is much better than at a hospital or NHS funded rehabilitation centre.
The Road to Recovery: What to Expect at a Rehabilitation Centre
In simplest terms, rehabilitation helps a person recover from an injury or illness that makes it difficult for them to do everyday activities, like working, playing with their family, and doing daily chores. Rehabilitation includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and more. It focuses on addressing the underlying cause of the disability, providing education and tools to help a person manage their symptoms, adapting their environment, using assistive products, and strengthening self-management and independence.
Rehabilitation can be in a person’s home, at a community rehabilitation centre, or in a residential rehabilitation facility. Some rehabilitation centres are private and provide rehabilitation care to those who can pay for it. They usually have better medications, treatments plans, staff and amenities than an NHS-funded rehabilitation centre.
Some rehabilitation centres offer detoxification as part of their rehabilitation programme. Other rehabs do not offer detox and will require residents to complete their detox elsewhere – sometimes at a residential drug rehabilitation treatment facility. Those who need a detox should seek advice from their local community drugs service about their readiness for rehab before making a referral to a rehab centre.
